Israeli Buddy Bear auctioned off for 8,000 Euro

This 2 metres tall Buddy Bear - designed by the Israeli artist Tamar Dubrovsky – has been the third bear to represent Israel in the circle of “United Buddy Bears” so far. Travelling more than 55,000 sea miles, it globally promoted tolerance and international understanding – together with about 140 other “United Buddy Bears“. It was presented in Istanbul, Tokyo, Seoul, Sydney, Berlin, Vienna, Cairo and Jerusalem.

After Israel decided to send a fourth “United Buddy Bear“ on the remaining journey around the world, this Buddy Bear designed by Tamar Dubrovsky could now be sold at an auction in aid of relief organisations helping children and adolescents in need - thus following the example of the two previous bears.

The auction took place during the Berlin Press Ball at the Maritim Hotel Berlin on 12th January 2008. The auction proceeds - 8,000 Euro - was for the benefit of the Sapir College in Israel – located in the immediate vicinity of the Gaza Strip.
