A Buddy Bear for the SOS-family centre Weimar

In 2017, staff  and visitors of the SOS-family centre in Weimar have gotten a big present for Christmas. A 2m tall present. Since 20th December a vibrant green Buddy Bear greets the families in front of the building on Abraham-Lincoln-Straße. With the set-up in Weimar this bear has returned home, home to its federal state of Thuringia. The artist Veit Goßler from Erfurt created the Buddy Bear for his home state Thuringia in 2014 for the 20th anniversary of the foundation “Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung”. He painted the bear with typical motives like Goethe and Schiller, Martin Luther, the colour circle by Goethe and even a Thuringian dumpling.

Over the last summer the SOS-family centre organized many activities, as for example painting actions, baking cookies in the shape of bears, or a flea market for children, to generate donations in order to bring the bear home. 1.500 Euro were raised for this purpose through generous donors from the region. This money is now being used to support the so-called “Schülerfirmen” of the DKJS (Deutsche Kinder und Jungendstiftung) in Thuringia . A great initiative with which the SOS-family centre made many children a big present.
