IDEA OF THE UNITED BUDDY BEARS

„WE HAVE TO GET TO KNOW EACH OTHER BETTER…,

…it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more, and live together more peacefully.“ In 2002 and 2003, this was the motto of the circle of “United Buddy Bears“ next to the Brandenburg Gate. These Buddy Bears (each 2 m high) are standing peacefully hand in hand to represent 124 United Nations member states. The circle is now on world tour.

ART

124 different artists, originally coming from the countries their bears represent, show the art style of their home countries. The arrangement of the bears in a circle unites the different styles of artists from all over the world in a unique work of art.

A MESSAGE

As a basis for a better understanding the individual design of each bear includes a lot of information about the different countries. Together with the symbolism of the circle love, peace, friendship, tolerance and international understanding are promoted.

CHARITY

Buddy Bear activities and help for children in need have formed an inseparable unit. A total of 1,072,000 (as per August 2005) has so far been generated through donations and selling Buddy Bears at auctions in aid of UNICEF and local organisations helping children in need. At the end of the global tour, all “United Buddy Bears“ will be sold at an auction in aid of children in need.
