The United Buddy Bears in Warsaw

13th Exhibition

Informacje w języku polskim

What once started off as the shipment of eight containers in the Port of Hamburg thanks to the support of the shipping company Hamburg Süd -  the world tour of the “United Buddy Bears“ - experienced another high point in Warsaw.

Due to the great support by the logistic partner of the United Buddy Bears, Schenker, it was possible to accept the invitation of the Mayor of the City of Warsaw, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz. Together with the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit and the First Deputy Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, she opened the exhibition on the Plac Zamkowy in the historic centre of Warsaw on 10th May 2008.

The Set-up

The Opening

Until the 22nd June 2008, the “United Buddy Bears“ - standing peacefully together “hand in hand“ - have told their stories about the culture, history and art belonging to the native countries of artists from all over the world - following the goal expressed in the motto of the exhibition: “ We have to get to know each other better, it makes us understand one another better, trust each other more and live together more peacefully.”

Even when the exhibition was set up, the Polish media showed a great interest, which was boosted by the opening event. All TV programmes as well as a large number of radio stations and print media reported about the exhibition opening. It is difficult to find words to describe the enormous amount of visitors interested in the exhibition  - we would like to let the pictures taken at the Plac Zamkowy at Whitsun 2008 speak for themselves!

Please read the Messages of Greeting by Radosław Sikorski, Polish Foreign Minister, and by Klaus Wowereit, Governing Mayor of Berlin.
