Singapore 2025

145 countries as guests in Singapore - a strong sign of peace, diversity and cultural solidarity.

Since 14 August 2025, the United Buddy Bears have been on display in Singapore for the first time, transforming the world-famous Gardens by the Bay into an impressive symbol of peace and unity.

The exhibition features 145 two-metre-tall bear sculptures, each designed by a different artist to represent the cultural identity of their home country. Hand in hand, these bears form a peaceful circle of nations – a powerful reminder of what connects us across borders.

United Buddy Bears in Singapore – On Display at Gardens by the Bay

An international art project celebrating 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Germany – promoting intercultural dialogue and cultural diversity.

More than art: the meaning behind the bears

The Buddy Bears are more than just colourful sculptures – they are ambassadors of peace, freedom, international understanding, and human rights.
Each bear tells a story: about the people, traditions, and creative voices of a nation. While individually unique, they share a collective message – that mutual respect, openness and cultural exchange are the foundations for peaceful coexistence.

Regardless of political systems, each bear represents the people of each country and their culture. Through art, the United Buddy Bears invite visitors to celebrate diversity, promote dialogue and view the world with empathy.

A Symbolic Venue for a Symbolic Anniversary

Hosted in celebration of 60 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Germany, the exhibition highlights the strong and growing ties between the two nations – and their shared commitment to open, peaceful societies.

Official Opening and Visitor Engagement

The exhibition was officially opened on 14 August in collaboration with the German embassy in Singapore, which initiated the project, by the Minister for Culture, Society and Youth, Dinesh Vasu Dash, the German Ambassador, Bettina Fanghänel, the CEO of Gardens by the Bay, Felix Loh, and Klaus Herlitz. Since then, thousands of visitors have already taken the opportunity to walk among the bears, reflect on their messages and experience a unique journey around the globe - all in one place. Admission is free.

Interactive Opportunities: Join & Win

As part of the exhibition, two social media contests are inviting visitors to share their impressions creatively – with a chance to win an original Buddy Bear miniature.

The United Buddy Bears were on display in Singapore until 12 October 2025.

The colourful exhibition has now ended and was a complete success – but its message lives on. Thousands of visitors experienced the circle of bears, which stands for peace, friendship and solidarity.
Even though the United Buddy Bears have departed, their spirit continues to invite us to see the world through the eyes of unity.
