United Buddy Bears in Astana
19th exhibition
From 15th May to the end of July 2010, 125 United Buddy Bears were guests in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, in the context of the “Year of Germany in Kazakhstan 2010“.
The circle was presented on the city’s most popular square – right in front of the Bajterek Tower. Like everywhere else in the world, visitors were able to admire the exhibition free of charge.
The exhibition is a joint initiative in co-operation with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany and the Akimat Administration of Astana.
The official opening
In the presence of around 2,000 guests, the German Ambassador in Astana, Rainer Schlageter and the Akimat of Astana opened the exhibition at the Bajterek Tower on Saturday, 15th May 2010.
Artistic performances and music – including folklore, modern dance, choirs from diverse ethnic groups and many other highlights – accompanied the festive event.
Please read here the message of greeting of the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit (in Russian or in Kazakh).
The Federal Foreign Office and the Goethe-Institut are the main organisers of the year of “Germany in Kazakhstan 2010“.

The exhibition owes its origin and the possibility to be visited all over the world completely free of charge to the committed work of many institutions, organisations, administrative bodies, companies and individuals.
The exhibition in Kazakhstan is another big step on the United Buddy Bears' journey around the world. We would like to express our sincere thanks for the support in Astana:
