United Buddy Bears – The Minis in Borås

The Minis were visiting Borås, a town in the South of Sweden, from 1st December 2012 until 2nd January 2013.

This was the first time the bears were shown during the winter months – right in the heart of this beautiful place - surrounded the Christmas tree with the colours of 108 different countries. The exhibition’s message of tolerance and living together in peace and harmony was above all coupled with the desire to help children in need.

Selling Buddy Bear miniatures and colouring books and collecting money with donation boxes were activities supporting the following two children’s aid organisations:

The Swedish children’s aid organisation BRIS (Barnens rätt i samhället – Children’s Rights in Society) has a huge network of people who support children in distress around the clock via telephone, e-mail and chat by listening to their problems and fears.

The local association "Frälsningsarmen i Borås" provides clothes, food, accommodation and Christmas presents.

The activities accompanying the exhibition also focused on its young visitors. Children could take part in a quiz and several events invited them to show their drawing skills. Very young children also had the opportunity to  give the bears a very special present for their next journey. In Sweden, children give their soother away when they do not need it any longer. Over the past years, Father Christmas has always been the recipient of this beloved comforter – but this year, the soothers recieved the bears instead.
