"Palenquera"
The Palenques were fortresses of the female slaves fighting against their humiliating situation and fleeing from bad treatment by their masters. The black woman participated in this form of resistance by creating the first Palenques and defending her culture and costums.
Along the entire coast the "Palenquera" of today has to work hard:
She sells fruit and other food which she gracefully carries on her head in heavy "Palanganas". With lots of energy and her happy-colourful clothes she walks through the streets selling her goods until sunset.
Our "Palenquera" keeps walking to look for peace.
