Interpretation
The mvet is a string instrument originating in ancient Egypt. Its art encompasses all aspects of the Fang culture: Poetry, philosophy and the scientific understanding of the world. The story goes that the ancestor of the Fang people, Oyono Ada Ngone, fell into a coma during a fight. As a result, his people lost their belief in the future. While in his coma, Oyono Ada Ngone saw a spirit that brought him the vision of a mvet to awake his people and to give them hope through songs and stories. When he woke up, he built the instrument, stroked the strings, magic streamed from the instrument, and the people regained hope.
