Interpretation

Front: "The Girl Kieu" by Nguyen, Du (1766-1820)

Back: "Gretchen" (Faust I) by Goethe, J.W. (1749-1832)

The classic authors Nguyen, Du and Goethe tell gripping and impressive tales of the most human of emotions in these masterpieces in verseform, about the joys of love and the suffering it can cause.

Kieu and Gretchen are young, inexperienced, well mannered, virtuous, passionate, dignified, beautiful and religious.

These virtues bring disaster upon both of them.

I chose Kieu and Gretchen for the design of my bear because they are among the most beautiful figures of world theatre.
