Interpretation

The bear shows Germany’s fine art – painters, musicians, female dancers and poets stand out, accentuated in black on colour areas in red and gold. The Brandenburg Gate is the landmark of the German capital Berlin, but also a symbol of Germany’s re-established unity. On the back of the bear, this theme continues with a portrayal of the federal eagle.
