Interpretation
The bear shows the coats of arms of the sixteen German Länder that, together, make up the Federal Republic of Germany. All coats of arms have symbols which represent individual regions within the respective Land.
Some contain animals which stand for strength, power, or endurance. Some symbols are to be found in the town insignias of the middle ages, others can be traced back to houses of the nobility.
The heart on the chest of the bear shows the colour of the German flag, and points to the union of the German Länder.
