Variety / Richness / Coming Together

Costa Rica is a small country with a surface area of 51,200 square kilometers. It stands out due to its biological, ethnological and climatological variety and richness. Types of flora and fauna from the northern and southern Americas meet in this territory. Even the pre-Columbian cultures regarded Costa Rica not only as a bridge but also as a meeting point for north and south. The irregular geography of the region makes the existence of diverse climate zones possible. They range from the always green rain and fog forests to the Savannahs and dry forests. It is no coincidence that Costa Rica is well known in the circles of biologists and other nature lovers.

Additionally, Costa Rica offers an equally diverse mix of inhabitants, the Americas, as well as Europe, Africa and Asia, are represented.

And Costa Rica is a tropial country full of light and colour.

Symbolism:

From the extremities of the Bear, that is from the north and from the south, animal and plant elements spread like lianas toward the middle. These show the cultural elements and their impact on the territory of Costa Rica that serves as a meeting place. The bright colours point to the colourful climate of the tropics. The thick contours taken together with the technique used here, serve as a reminder of the ceramic art of pre-Columbian peoples.

The stars on the head symbolize the peaceful nature of the Costa Rican people, Costa Rica hasn't had a military force in forty years!
