Malaysia
Artist: Karl-Friedrich Bendlin
Karl Bendlin spent more than thirty years in Malaysia. During this time, he transposed some of his impressions into paintings. Through this, he made a positive contribution to the cultural relationship between Malaysia and Germany. In recognition of his work, he received the "Most Honourable Order of Johan Setia Diraja (Honorary)" from his majesty Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the former king of Malaysia.
Interpretation
The bear for Malaysia is dressed in a batik suit, patterned after typical Malaysian motifs: the hibiscus is the national flower, the hornbill is the national bird, others include orchids and butterflies. The orang-utan and the Twin Towers (the largest building in the world in Kuala Lumpur) symbolize the wide range from tradition to progress in this wonderful country.
