Bahamas

Artist: Sabrina Reeder, Svenja Schweizer, Johannes Neuhann, Malerei AG der Humboldt-Oberschule, Berlin-Tegel

The design of the bear was entirely in the hands of Svenja Schweizer (born October 20th, 1986) and Sabrina Reeder (born, July 17th, 1986) both students at the Humboldtschule (High School) in Berlin-Tegel, Class 9b.

The bear was made under the instruction of Johannes Neuhann (born June 25th, 1951), art instructor at the Humboldtstraße since 1975.

He studied at the School of Fine Art in Kassel, and continues his artistic endeavors today (abstract painting).

Interpretation

Through working with two pupils and using the abundant information material received from the Bahamas Consulate, it became clear that this bear should evoke associations such as "ocean, the Pacific etc." Up close, one can see various pictures of the flora and fauna found in the Bahamas, palm trees, dolphins and orchids.

The flag of the Bahamas makes for a good piece of summer clothing due to its shape.Th e symbolism reads: "Blue for the sea, yellow for the sun, black for the people”.
