Artist: Karl-Friedrich Bendlin

Karl Bendlin spent more than thirty years in Malaysia. During this time, he transposed some of his impressions into paintings. Through this, he made a positive contribution to the cultural relationship between Malaysia and Germany. In recognition of his work, he received the "Most Honourable Order of Johan Setia Diraja (Honorary)" from his majesty Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman, the former king of Malaysia.

Interpretation

The bear for Malaysia is dressed in a Batik-Suit, patterned after typical Malaysian motifs: Hibiscus is the national flower, the Hornbill is the national bird, others include Orchids and Butterflies. Orang-Utan and the Twin Towers (the largest building in the world in Kuala Lumpur) symbolize the large scope of tradition and development in this wonderful country.
