Ground-breaking ceremony for the Jewish Campus Berlin

On June 10 2018, the ground-breaking ceremony for the "Pears Jewish Campus" was held in Berlin-Wilmersdorf. This symbolic act marked the start of construction of an educational centre where orthodox rules will apply, but which will be open to all – a cross-religious intercultural meeting place. Foreign Minister Heiko Maas (left) had accepted the invitation of Rabbi Yehuda Teichtal (right) as well as the Vice President of the Bundestag Petra Pau and Berlin's Senator of Culture Klaus Lederer.

Another guest of honour stood on stage throughout the ceremony: the blank bear donated by Buddy Bear Berlin, which will be designed at a later date. A suitable gift for such an open campus – after all, the Buddy Bears have always stood for respect and tolerance.
