During the Easter vacations, together with the Bürgerstiftung Berlin, we visited the elementary school Grundschule in den Rollbergen, the winning school of the student award "Buddies for Peace" 2021.
In a workshop conducted by the school's social services department together with an art educator, six boys and girls, who are "dispute mediators in training," decorated the 2-meter Buddy Bear with words on the theme of peace. The children had chosen these themselves and translated them into more than 40 languages.
Beforehand, the bear received a primer in rainbow colors, which the students had sprayed on. The finale was the vest of the dispute mediators “Streitschlichter” – the project with which the elementary school won the Buddies for Peace Award in 2021. Very soon, the bear will greet the students, teachers, and parents in the entryway.
The application period for the "Award for Peaceable Education" is currently running at the Bürgerstiftung Berlin. Projects, initiatives, working groups and activities can be submitted for this year's Buddies for Peace Award until May 31. In addition to the prize money, this year's winners will once again receive "beartastic" prizes.
