Champions 2020 – the best of the best

For many years now, Berlin's Sportsperson of the Year has been chosen in December. Golden Buddy Bears are awarded to athletes, teams and managers who have impressed and emotionally touched people with their achievements in the past year. In 2020, everything is a bit different, but not necessarily worse. Because: This year, on December 15, "the best of the best" were honored – namely of the past 41 years.

The big gala on the occasion of the awards ceremony had to be cancelled, of course, but the extremely successful and festive online event could be followed via youtube by far more sports enthusiasts than was usually the case.

This year's awards went to star swimmer Franziska van Almsick, discus-giant Robert Harting, the top basketball players from ALBA Berlin and volleyball manager Kaweh Niroomand.

The online format "ALBA's Daily Sports Lesson", which was developed during the pandemic, received the special prize of the sports metropolis.

The Manfred von Richthofen Solidarity Award went to the Berlin tandem team Jürgen Pansin and Sven Marx. Their goal was to cycle to Tokyo for the Paralympics to set an example for Paralympic sports.
