Animal protection city Berlin

„Berlin ist Tierschutz-Stadt!“ ("Berlin is animal protection city!“) This is what it says on the Buddy Bear for the animal shelter Berlin, which was designed by Andrej Wolff. In the summer, the department of the state animal protection commissioners of the Berlin senate administration had assigned the order for "Berlin‘s Animal Protection Bear"“.

At the ceremonial unveiling on 22nd October 2020, not only the staff of the animal shelter and the Managing Director of Buddy Bear Berlin, Dr. Klaus Herlitz, but also the artist and the Senator for Justice, Consumer Protection and Anti-Discrimination Dirk Behrend (BÜNDNIS 90/DIE GRÜNEN) were on site. Due to the pandemic, it was not possible to hold a large festival with visitors of all ages.

The topic of animal and species protection has been accompanying the Buddy Bears for several years now. Andrej Wolff had already designed the Buddy Bear "Wildlife", which welcomes visitors at the Berlin Zoo and draws attention to animals threatened with extinction. So now, another bear with Berlin motifs and domestic animals has been created, which can be admired at Hausvaterweg on the outskirts of the city.
