Buddy Bears make learning fun for Delhi schoolkids

From 27th March – 6th May 2012 the exhibition of the United Buddy Bears took place in New Delhi as part of the Year of Germany in India 2011-2012. The Buddy Bears provided the perfect backdrop for young German learners from schools in Delhi and adjoining areas to learn more about Germany and express their creativity in a fun-filled atmosphere.

During the exhibition, the German Embassy, together with the Goethe-Institut / Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi, organised a quiz and a painting competition for students of schools within the PASCH network. The quiz, with more than 30 questions based on the exhibited Buddy Bears, was conducted on 26th April. Students from Xth and XIth standards participated and the winners were awarded iPods from the German Embassy.

On 4th May, a painting competition was held at the Buddy Bear exhibition in New Delhi’s Connaught Place for students of VIth and VIIth standards. 112 students from 28 schools participated—each of them putting paint to paper to illustrate their very own imagination and vision of the ‘Buddy Bear’.

“It was a fun-filled and enriching experience,” said a teacher of German from one of the participating schools. She added, “Beautiful Buddy Bears of different countries gave us an insight into the cultures and traditions and the message of peace was put across 'colourfully'. It was like a journey around the world in 80 minutes; and indeed a beautiful one!!”
