The project offers a comprehensive, innovative approach to the integration of third-country nationals in Berlin, with a special focus on those with refugee experience. It combines art education workshops with language courses and social participation programmes. As part of the workshops, the participants create individual Buddy Bear sculptures, which are then exhibited at prominent locations in Berlin. The participants are accompanied by experienced art educators, professional cultural mediators and volunteers. In addition to integrating refugees, the aim of Buddy Bear | Art & Culture is to sensitise the host society to the topic of migration.
Over the course of three years, the project, which is funded by the European Union, makes an important contribution to supporting people who have experienced flight. Over a period of six months per group, art is used as a medium to promote processing, dialogue and integration. The individually designed Buddy Bear sculptures stand for tolerance and international understanding and make community and cultural diversity in Germany visible. In a protected space, personal experiences from their flight, the challenges of arriving in Germany and aspects of their new life here can be processed under professional guidance.
In addition to the artistic work, the project serves as a platform for intercultural encounters. In an open and friendly atmosphere, participants can exchange ideas with other people and support each other. The aim is to create a better understanding of each other and promote social contacts.
The programme is aimed at third-country nationals with legal and permanent residence in Germany as well as volunteers. Participation in the workshops is free of charge.
The workshops take place on two half days a week (Mon to Fri / 10am - 2pm and 2.30pm - 6.30pm) at Bayreuther Straße 4, 10787 Berlin, on the 6th floor. Participants and volunteers can register by sending an e-mail to art.culture@buddy-bear.com or by calling +49 152 55431000.
