"We have to get to know each other better".
The Buddy Bears
UNICEF Australia is proud to be the beneficiary of the Sydney 2006 leg of the United Buddy Bear’s journey around the world.
The world renowned charity exhibition “United Buddy Bears” is a group of 124 distinctively painted, life-sized bears, which stand paw in paw to promote peaceful coexistence, tolerance and international understanding amongst nations. They are causing quite a stir at Sydney’s Circular Quay where they are on public display until April 5th.
Each of the visiting buddy bears has been painted by a renowned artist from the country that they represent-drawn from the 124 member nations of the UN. Their mission is to promote a message of goodwill, tolerance and peaceful coexistence amongst nations.
“We have to get to know each other better…it makes us understand one another better, and trust each other more, and live together more peacefully.”
The "United Buddy Bears" (each 2 m tall and weighing 50 kilos) stand together hand in hand in complete harmony.
The idea for this exhibition was created 2001 by the inventors of the Buddy Bears, Mrs Eva and Dr Klaus Herlitz.
