Ceremonial unveiling of the Buddy Bear “Sofia“

On 22 July 2010 at 15:00, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit, the Mayor of Sofia, Jordanka Fandakova and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, Matthias Höpfner, jointly unveiled the Buddy Bear in front of the German Embassy in Sofia. The art project is a result of the cooperation with the cultural department of the Sofia Municipality.

The first Buddy Bear in Bulgaria was painted by the young Bulgarian artist Alexander Petkoff. For his design, he chose the colours of the German flag, together with poems by Rainer-Maria Rilke and Dimcho Debeljanov, two great representatives of European symbolism.
