A Buddy Bear for Armenia

On 19 November 2010, a Buddy Bear was set up in front of the “Guest House Berlin“ in Gyumri. This is a social pilot project initiated by the Berlin Red Cross. The 2m tall bear was designed by the Armenian artist Vahan Topichan and disabled children from Berlin and Armenia.

The project was initiated by Rainer Otto, who has been very committed to his work with Armenia for years. He had this idea in the context of departing from his long-term role as a chairman of the local Red Cross chapter Berlin Steglitz-Zehlendorf e.V.

Photo: Before the bear was securely wrapped and sent to Armenia, the Ambassador of Armenia to the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Armen Martirosyan, honoured the Elisabeth-Weiske-Heim where the bear was designed, with his visit – together with Dr Klaus Herlitz and Rainer A. Otto.
