Kuala Lumpur: 71,300 Euros for Children's Aid Projects
A total amount of 285,750 Malaysian Ringgit (around 71,300 Euros) for children in need was the final outcome of the United Buddy Bears exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. During a period of almost three months, the exhibition attracted more than 2.5 million visitors.
During the final gala dinner on 16th February 2012 in the presence of His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Selangor and the First Lady of Malaysia, YABhg Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, 6 cheques were handed over to children’s aid organisations. The total amount was generated by donations and auction proceeds. A number of unique bear sculptures were sold in aid of children in need, including two large and several small Buddy Bears.
Five local projects (Angels Children's Home, Yayasan Permata, Yayasan Chow Kit, Tri-Ratana Welfare Society, Yayasan Raja Muda Selangor and Shelter Home for Children) and the Buddy Bear Help e.V. are going to benefit from the proceeds.
Among other activities, the Buddy Bear Help e.V. is going to use the allocated auction proceeds to continue its activity from previous years by paying the monthly rent for the ARCHE in Berlin-Wedding
The global tour of the bear sculptures continues with 140 Buddy Bears designed by artists from 140 countries. At the end of March 2012, the exhibition will be opened in the Indian capital New Delhi.
